February 11-12 AO Youth/Sr Meet
Members of the Hamilton Olympic Club participated in the Athletics Ontario Youth/Senior Championship Meet on the weekend of February 11-12.
In the youth category, Alec Purnell set an indoor best of 51.65sec in winning the gold medal in the 400m race. Daunte Henriques ran consistently to take the bronze medal in the 60m dash in a time of 7.19secduring the Saturday competition, then returned on Sunday to earn the silver medal in the 200m with a time of 23.05sec. Also running well in the 200m race were Randy Tshikuna with a time of 23.94sec, Marqus Rookwood going 24.25sec and Eric Justason 24.62sec.
Simon Black took home the silver medal in the weight throw with a toss of 16.09m. His indoor best, with the new ‘rotational’ technique, of 12.59m was good for fifth place in the shot put event.
Running up an age group, Jasmine Buckridge participated in the senior women’s category. She came sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:26.40 and seventh in the 1500m with5:04.28.
The midget-aged Ontario vs Québec dual meet was held as part of Saturday’s competition. Nifaiya Robinson took control in the 300m race, winning gold with his time of 37.30sec.
